Residential and Day students in sixth through eighth grade will take four classes each school day (Monday through Friday), including a required humanities class in which all students will work on close reading skills and expository writing through work with an all-grade or all-program read. They remain in these classes for all three weeks of the program. Ninth and tenth graders will take two electives, a humanities class, and an interdisciplinary class focused on art, science, and math. Our class sizes are small, averaging 10 to 14 students per class.
The school day balances class time and outdoor fun, but in all activities, students will be encouraged to think critically, solve problems, and work collaboratively. Whether your Scholar lives on campus or travels with you every day to and from campus, they will become part of the Lawrenceville Summer Scholars family, enjoying every aspect of House and Harkness, the two pillars of the Lawrenceville School.
Summer Scholars is one program and students have a choice to join us as a residential or day scholar. Residential scholars live in the historic Lawrenceville houses, spending every night from July 10 through July 29 on campus, and enjoying all their meals in our dining hall. Day scholars come to school every morning after breakfast and are picked up at 4:30, Monday through Friday, and spend weekends off-campus with their families. Lawrenceville provides lunch for students during the school day.
Along with time for required classes and planned activities, days are structured to allow for individual study and relaxation in study areas, House common rooms, athletic facilities, musical instrument practice, and participation in optional free time activities.
